Remembering Who We Pray To

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening!

My last post I was briefly looking to Psalm 119 and the question of what does success look like today and in my life through living according to the standards written in God's word and what success looks like according to the Lord! Today I want to focus briefly on three passages with the specific focus on being able to ask questions of the Lord! So, diving right into it.

Here is what Jesus our Lord says about this.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 “Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

-> Pretty straightforward. Haven’t gotten an answer yet? Keep asking, keep searching, keep knocking. Always remember though who you are asking… Always remember whose door your are knocking on. But! Be prepared for the door to open and for you to get your answer. Don’t be surprised when the Lord does answer you! Here is two brief passages reminding you of the throne room of God and our Lord and Savior Jesus… I try my best to remember these settings when I pray to remind myself of what King I am in front of.

Revelation 1:12-16

12 “ I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me. When I turned I saw seven gold lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was One like the Son of Man, dressed in a long robe and with a gold sash wrapped around His chest. 14 His head and hair were white like wool - white as snow - and His eyes like a fiery flame. 15 His feet were like fine bronze as it is fired in a furnace, and His voice like the sound of cascading waters. 16 He had seven stars in His right hand; a sharp double-edged sword came from His mouth, and His face was shining like the sun at midday.”

-> This is our description of the risen King who is the one who prays with us and for us and lived for us and died for us and is building a kingdom and rooms for us and loves us and fights for us and will one day come back and we will be with Him forever! But this description… our Lord is powerful and mighty and so... be respectful!

This next passage describes the throne room of the Lord. Take notice of what is said right at the beginning of this passage!

Revelation 4

“ After this I looked, and there in heaven was an open door. The first voice that I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “ Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”

2 Immediately I was in the Spirit, and a throne was set there in heaven. One was seated on the throne, 3 and the One seated looked like jasper and carnelian stone. A rainbow that looked like an emerald surrounded the throne. 4 Around that throne were 24 thrones, and on the thrones sat 24 elders dressed in white clothes, with gold crowns on their heads. 5 Flashes of lightning and rumblings of thunder came from the throne. Seven fiery torches were burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God. 6 Something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal, was also before the throne. Four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back were in the middle and around the throne. 7 The first living creature was like a lion; and the second living creature was like a calf; the third living creature had a face like a man; and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. 8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings; they were covered with eyes around and inside. Day and night they never stop, saying:

Holy, holy, holy,

Lord God, the Almighty,

who was, who is,

and who is coming.

9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the One seated on the throne, the One who lives forever and ever, 10 the 24 elders fall down before the One seated on the throne, worship the One who lives forever and ever, cast their crowns before the throne, and say:

11 Our Lord and God,

You are worthy to receive

glory and honor and power,

because you have created

all things,

and because of Your will

they exist and were created.”

-> The door that you are knocking on to seek answers? This is what is behind it…yet again, be respectful! I find is fascinating that there is an open door. I also find is fascinating that Jesus invited John up there to see! So, there is a door to the throne room, and invitations can be sent! Our Lord and Savior Jesus is in the throne room. The Spirit of the Lord is in the throne room. God the Father is in the throne room. These 4 crazy creatures are in the throne room. 24 elders are in the throne room. And... so can we when we ask and when we search and when we knock. Perhaps... just maybe... our prayers are knocking on the throne room door and you are, spiritually speaking, praying directly in front of all of this each time you call upon the Lord. This is a small look into how prayers work. So… what about success? Well, start with reading the scriptures! Then start by praying. And I will dive more into this later!

Be blessed and stay healthy and remember that you are never alone when you are with Christ.
