Matthew 7:24-27 NASB

24 "'Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25 'And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the wind blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.

26 'Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

27 'The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell-and great was its fall.'

28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching;

29 for He was teaching as one having authority, and not as their scribes."

Good Morning, Afternoon, or Evening!

I have been thinking about this particular passage for a few days now in the current time we are experiencing. Things are changing and they are changing quickly. Things could get better very soon, or... they could not. Perhaps after this things will get back to normal but it will be a new normal. Who knows?

This passage is at the end of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew. in order to fully understand when it is written "therefore..." we need to read and understand all the things that Jesus has said so far in his famous message that he delivered at around 30 years of age. (that's only a few years older than me...)

Once we read the Sermon on the Mount... this is the concluding thoughts and illustration that Jesus gives us to remember it by. Either you will listen to the words AND act on them which has similar results to a wise builder, who constructs his home on solid foundation... or you will listen to these words AND NOT act on them which would be like a foolish builder who constructs his home in sand...

Jesus is speaking of your spiritual home here and how important it is to have a solid foundation (that's the concrete slab and metal rods that are used to support the entire rest of your house on. If you do not have a good foundation, cracks will happen in the house, it will tilt, flooring will break, and if a serious storm happened, your home would collapse) in order to not be destroyed when hardship comes your way.

I wish that life were simple enough that if we were wise, physically everything would be ok no matter what. But unfortunately, because we live in a fallen world that is full of sin, we could do everything right and still have terrible hardship come our way. Jesus is really trying to get across to us that when our foundation is in him and his words, which are true truth, that no matter what might come against us or currently is coming against us we can know we will be ok with him.

My prayer for you in this time students is that you all would be wise and really be looking, listening, and learning during this time and realizing that the things we have been learning about in the Bible are not just words... but as Moses said through the Holy Spirit "they are your life" (Deuteronomy 32:47).

You might be in situations very soon where you and the Lord will see if you can do and act in the ways that you have been learning and taught.

Please make every effort to not add stress to your families and be extra mindful not to complain during this season, because many families around the world might not have built their spiritual let alone physical homes on solid foundation are many have lost jobs and are and will be soon in very difficult times.

Be thankful for your families who are providing for you and please stay safe, stay healthy, and... students... try to take this slightly seriously. But also, don't forget that the Bible says that when you are wise... you can "laugh at the days to come" because you can be "clothed in strength and dignity." (Proverbs 31)

Also, please remember that you are also in the best state in the U.S and that we are all on the same team!

Have a great and blessed rest of your day and I will write more soon!
